Biography:
Sister Joyce earned a bachelor's degree in English, philosophy and education from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, and a master's degree in spiritual theology from Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, CA. She also earned an advanced clinical pastoral education certificate.
Sister Joyce began her ministry as an educator in area schools. She then served congregational ministry as director of formation and, later, novice director. Sister went on to work as a spiritual director in California before traveling to Kasiya, Zambia, Africa, to serve as a lecturer and dean of students at Kasiya Secretarial College. She later ministered in Lusaka, Zambia, Africa, with the Zambia Association of Sisterhoods, the national conference of women religious, and continued to serve as a lecturer and spiritual director in the region.
In 1986, Sister Joyce returned to the United States and was elected to the Presentation Sisters' Leadership Council. She served four years as a councilor, followed by eight years as the congregational president. In 1999, Sister became the executive director for the Conrad N. Hilton Fund for Sisters in Los Angeles, CA.
Currently, Sister Joyce is the International liaison and a writer for Global Sisters Report. She serves on the board of directors for Conrad N Hilton Foundation, Medicines for Humanity, Good Shepherd International Ministry board and is a consultant to and advocate for sisters in Africa and Asia for funding issues.
Sister Joyce adds, "Religious life is a very rich life, full of adventure and challenge spiritually and psychologically. It offers so many opportunities for growth and is rich in opportunity to come to know God and to give one's life to something way beyond comprehension."
