The Mass of Resurrection for Sister Marie Joseph Schmitz, 82, will be Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Convent, Aberdeen, SD. Reverend David Janes will be celebrant and homilist. A memorial wake service will be Sunday, June 12, at 1:00 p.m. in Blessed Sacrament Chapel with visitation following.

Sister Marie Joseph Schmitz, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died June 7, 2016 at Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen, SD.
Bonnalyn Irene was born February 27, 1934 to Ellowene (Owen) and Roy Joseph Schmitz in Dell Rapids, SD. She graduated from Cathedral High School, Sioux Falls, SD in 1952 and Presentation School of Nursing, McKennan Unit, as a Registered Nurse in 1955. She entered Presentation Convent January 5, 1956 and made her first profession of vows August 10, 1958.
Sister Marie Joseph ministered in the healthcare profession for many years from 1955 to 1998. She served at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, Avera St. Luke’s and Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen, and St. Joseph (Queen of Peace), Mitchell, SD. She also worked at Mom and Dad’s, Sioux Falls and Palisade Manor in Garretson.
Sister Marie Joseph was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching the Twins and other baseball and football teams in real life or on TV. She retired in 2001 to share the Presentation Sisters’ mission through her participation in prayer ministry.
Sister Marie Joseph is survived by her community family of Presentation Sisters and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ellowene (Owen) and Roy Joseph Schmitz, three brothers, Donald, Robert and Gene Schmitz.
Active pall bearers will be nephews of Sister Marie Joseph.
