On this 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombing the Aberdeen Presentation Sisters would like to share their 1984 Corporate Stand on Nuclear Disarmament:
“We are women who value life as a sacred gift of our Creator. Nuclear weapons threaten to destroy life. Moreover, available resources which could be used to free the poor from oppression are now being allocated for the building of nuclear weapons…(We) believe we are morally obligated to oppose the possession of nuclear weapons.”
Sister Mary Dennis Lentsch, PBVM from Dubuque, Iowa, has been actively resisting nuclear proliferation since the early 1980s. Her pastoral letter calls for people of faith to engage the morality of ongoing production of nuclear weapons in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. We ask that people of faith everywhere engage in the morality of nuclear weapons.
