Celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart

As we celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart on June 16, we are reminded that nothing can separate us from the enduring love of Jesus Christ. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is so powerful, and yet it can be far too easy to forget that divine love is still flowing into our daily, ordinary lives, lifting up our heavy burdens into the loving embrace of Jesus’ love.

Our Sisters have heard a special call and dedicate themselves to the embodiment of Jesus in our world today. Together with our partners, we strive to minister to those in need with the same compassionate and open heart that Jesus first showed us.

Each day the staff at Caminando Juntos serve the newly arrived Latino population with an open heart, welcoming each person by providing acceptance, love and hope for each one’s journey.

Many Latino migrants come to the United States seeking asylum. Forced to migrate due to social, political or economic unrest in their home countries, they fear for their family’s lives. When they arrive in the U.S., although grateful for their safety, many find life here very difficult and painful. They are frightened and lonely, missing their families and friends in their own culture. At times they are not welcomed.

Caminando Juntos provides services to our new neighbors. They work alongside them providing immigration services, reunifying unaccompanied minors with their family and offering classes to learn the English language. They assist in finding resources and help create cultural connections, bringing the whole community together. Enclosed is a brochure highlighting some of the services provided at this ministry.

Thank you for your continued partnership in the mission we all share, the compassionate mission of Jesus. We invite you to send us your prayer intentions in the enclosed envelope. You and your intentions are held in the Presentation Sisters’ Novena to the Sacred Heart.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart has special significance for the Presentation Sisters. The mystery of God’s merciful love is what drew our foundress, Nano Nagle, to those made poor by the systems of her day. She saw them in a new light – as children loved by God. This experience of God’s merciful love compelled her to reach out to those who did not experience God’s love and light. Nano was drawn into the divine dynamic of the Sacred Heart devotion to such an extent that the original title of the Presentation Sisters in 1775 was “Sisters of the Charitable Instruction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus”. In the spirit of Nano, Presentation Sisters throughout the world continue this devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the ministry begun by Nano.
